We’ve all heard the expressions: ‘The only certainty is uncertainty’ and ‘The only constant is change’.
On an intellectual level, successful people understand that embracing change, no matter how painful, usually trumps resisting it. They know that change brings a certain level of discomfort to them and the people around them. On an emotional level, change can be difficult for most of us. My experience has taught me that each of us seems to have a different ‘pain threshold’ when it comes to change.
Good leaders understand that progress and achievement of goals require change.
Much has been written on how leaders and organisations can manage change successfully. This brief article by Rosabeth Moss Kanter on Harvard Business Review’s HBR Blog Network is a great summary of the ten reasons why people resist change. In addition, Rosabeth provides some sage advice on how to overcome each: Ten Reasons People Resist Change
Thank you Rosabeth and HBR!
